To my Extension colleagues across the state,
This week marks the beginning of a new chapter for me – and for all of us – as I officially step into the role of NC State Extension Director. I want to take a moment to personally share my appreciation and say how honored I am to lead and serve alongside you in this next phase of our journey.
We are part of something truly special. Extension’s mission – rooted in science, service and community – has shaped my career since I first joined this organization 40 years ago. That land-grant legacy continues to inspire and drive me each day.
These are challenging times, but I believe deeply in Extension. More importantly, I believe in each of you. I am committed to leading with transparency, fostering meaningful impact, and working together to navigate the uncertainties and opportunities ahead.
Leadership begins with listening. In the months ahead, I’ll be spending time in conversations and out in the field – listening, learning and aligning around our shared goals. That includes engaging with our Extension experts, partners and stakeholders statewide; gaining a deeper understanding of your work and needs; and identifying new ways to continue strengthening our people, programs and impact.
I’ll keep you informed as we move forward – sharing updates on priorities, progress on key initiatives and opportunities for continued engagement. I also welcome your ideas, input and feedback along the way. Please don’t hesitate to reach out.
For now, thank you for your dedication, your resilience and the difference you make in communities across North Carolina every single day.
We’ll continue to move Extension forward – together.
Thanks,
David
