Application Narrative Requirements:

All applicants must include an Application as well as Reference Letters

Submit a typed double-spaced narrative – limited to no more than 3 pages that include:



  • The Extension Agent has gone above and beyond the “call of duty”.
  • The Extension Agent encourages excellence in program areas and teamwork.
  • Recognition of the Extension Agent's leadership ability by others in the county.
  • Significant contributions or changes he/she has made in the County Extension Program.

Reference Letters

Applicants will also be required to submit 2 letters of recommendation.  

One of the reference letters must be from the applicant's immediate supervisor.

Lois Britt worked for the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service, Duplin County Center for 33 years. At her retirement in 1990, she had served for 12 years as the center’s County Extension Director. She worked for 10 years with Murphy Family Farms as Vice President for Public Relations. She served as Special Assistant to the President of Murphy-Brown LLC until her death in 2005.

Ms. Britt established the Lois G. Britt Outstanding Extension Agent Award to provide an annual award to an outstanding field faculty member of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service.
