Eligible for Nomination of Award – 4-H Agents
Criteria – Selection criteria includes scholarship, tenure with the organization (five (5) year minimum), and recommendations received by the Committee. Recipients must have more than .50 FTE assignment with the 4-H program.
How to Apply:- Describe achievements of the nominee and why he/she should be considered for the award. Be specific regarding accomplishments and impacts. Items you may wish to address include:
- How the Extension Agent has gone above and beyond the “call of duty”.
- How the Extension Agent encourages excellence in program areas and teamwork.
- Recognition of leadership ability of Extension Agent by others in the county.
- Reference LettersApplicants will also be required to submit 2 letters of recommendation.
One of the reference letters must be from the applicant's immediate supervisor.
This award was established by the family of Lathan Smith to honor an Extension 4-H Agent whose performance exemplifies the outstanding professional characteristics demonstrated by Mr. Smith during his professional career.
Mr. Smith served as an Extension Agent in Wayne and Davidson Counties. He was named Extension District 4-H Program Leader on April 15, 1978 and was appointed Extension Professor of 4-H Youth Development on July 1, 1979. He was named Extension Specialist, 4-H in July 1984.
The award is funded by an endowment established within the North Carolina 4-H Development Fund. It is presented each year at Extension Service Conference. The recipient receives a cash award of $500 and a commemorative plaque. Selection is made by the Extension Service Awards Committee from nominations received.
