Culinary Classes

Chef Back Demonstrates at Community Culinary Classes

N.C. Cooperative Extension, Watauga County is teaming up with Caldwell Community College Culinary Program to offer a series of classes to the community this spring! Classes are $75 each and you may register through the Caldwell Community College online system  Search for Back under instructor and the classes should come up. Or you may call them at 828.726.2242 to register.

Create your own grain bowl!

Friday, March 18th, 4:30 until 7:30

Ever wonder what to do with leftover rice or quinoa? What about that rotisserie chicken? Whether planned or ad lib, a grain bowl makes a delicious and complete meal. In this class, you’ll roast veggies, cook up several different grains using the pilaf method, and make sauces for topping. Then use your creativity to assemble dinner!

Not Just Basil Pesto

Friday, April 22nd, 4:30 until 7:30

When you think of making pesto, do you think basil? Join us to get creative with basil pesto and discover other greens and herbs that you may use. We’ll make arugula, cilantro, kale and parsley pesto and use in ways you may have never considered. Since pesto freezes well, you’ll never need to throw out the last of the bunch again!

Asian Sampler Class

Friday, May 6th, 4:30 until 7:30

During this class, you’ll master a couple of Asian favorites. Pad Thai from Thailand and Fried Rice from China. You’ll make sauces, and then get creative with veggies and protein of choice. With new skills and recipes in hand, you are sure to impress any dinner guest!
