The Empowering Youth and Families Program (EYFP) is a FREE ten-week session special interest club for youth aged 10 -14, in partnership with their caregivers, to improve family relationships and communication, develop civic engagement skills, provide service-learning opportunities, and combat the opioid crisis in our community.

Programs goals: Increase youth & caregiver knowledge related to the potential health impacts of substance misuse. Increase caregivers active listening, and the family unit’s ability to communicate and problem-solve together. Empower youth and adults to work with community leaders to create change and educate the public about the impact of substance abuse in our community.

Each week, youth and their families will be treated to dinner. Caregivers and youth will then participate in separate sessions that provide insightful training in the art of family building. During the last hour of our meetings, youth and caregivers come together for fun family session and practice learned skills. At the end of our ten-week session, there will be family retreat weekend at the Eastern 4-H Center in Columbia, NC! We wrap up our program by working together to plan a community outreach event to educate others about this program and the prevention aspects of the opioid epidemic in our area.

We will meet on the same night weekly for a total of ten sessions. Depending on
